Registration: All players must register online to attend travel tryouts.  Registration for Travel Tryouts can be found using the link above.  Walk-up registration is strongly discouraged.  Advanced registration ensures that coaches and evaluators have each player's name, number, and other information during tryouts, and allows for direct parent communication containing up-to-date information relating to tryouts and team selection.  Online registration closes 48 hours before tryouts.

Divisions/Age-Groups: For the 2026–2027 season, age groups will follow the school-year model, with a cut-off date of August 1st, as established by US Youth Soccer.  For example, a player born in October 2016 would be placed in the U11 age group, as their birth date falls within August 1, 2016 – July 31, 2017.

Fee: No fee to tryout.

Attendance: Prospective and Returning players must attend at least one (1) tryout to be considered for a team.  Attendance at both sessions is strongly recommended for thorough evaluation.

What to Bring/Wear: White shirts only. Shin guards are required. Water and cleats/turf shoes are recommended. Returning players may not wear Towson United uniforms.

Check-In: Check-in opens 30 minutes before tryouts. Players receive a numbered bib (safety pins provided). Please keep your bib and re-use it during the second session.  Parents/guardians may accompany players during the check-in process, but must remove themselves from the playing field during tryouts.

Field Player Evaluations: Coaches evaluate players on the five criteria: skill, soccer IQ, athleticism, effort, and attitude.  Prospective players will be evaluated on their performance at tryouts as well as any other additional information known to the evaluators/coaches.  Returning players will be evaluated on their performance at tryouts as well as coach evaluations from previous seasons.  More information about tryout evaluation criteria may be found here.  Please remember that because you were on a Towson United Travel team in the past DOES NOT guarantee a roster spot in the coming season.

Goalkeeper Evaluations: Goalkeeper evaluations are available for players who have a genuine interest in playing goalkeeper for part of the regular season. All players participating in goalkeeper evaluations must bring and wear goalkeeper gloves for safety. Players must sign up for goalkeeper evaluations in advance; walk-up registrations for goalkeeper evaluations are not permitted.

Invitation Process: Invitations for an age-group's top team will be sent via email to the prospective player’s parents with a specified deadline for acceptance.  If a spot is declined or the deadline passes, the spot will be offered to another player.  When the first team is finalized, invitations for the second team will be sent out, and so on, until all teams in an age-group are finalized. The player selection process takes time, and so we ask for your patience as we work through the process thoughtfully and diligently.

Notice of Final Team Selection: Once all teams are finalized, all families will receive an email informing that team selection is complete and that, if they did not receive an invitation, their player was not selected.  

Playing Up: As a general rule, Towson United does not permit players to "play up" in older age groups. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis for players who exhibit exceptional maturity, skill, attitude, work ethic, and soccer intelligence.  In such cases, the player must be selected for the older division's top-tier team (Maroon or “A” team) in order to play up.

No Longer Attending Tryouts:  If your player is no longer able to attend tryouts, please notify us as soon as possible at travelcommissioner@towsonunited.org. This courtesy helps our coaches and volunteers plan accordingly.
